What we’re known for
Finding the problem other electricians missed.
Arlyn Mund has worked in the electrical trade since the 1980s and has held a Colorado electrical license since 1986. His reputation is troubleshooting: when an outlet is dead, a breaker won’t stay on or the lights flicker for no clear reason, he traces it to the cause.
That patience runs through every job, from a single ceiling fan to a full remodel. We test before we replace, explain what we found, and give you the price before the work starts.

Lettered on the van
Honest. Dependable. Service.
Three words have been on the side of the Sonshine van for years. Here’s what they mean on a job.
Honest
We tell you what we found, what it means and what it costs, in plain words, before any work starts. If it doesn’t need fixing, we say so.
Dependable
We show up when we said, finish what we start and back up our work. Some customers have called us for more than a decade.
Service
Small repairs get the same care as big remodels. Covers go back on, the dust gets cleaned up and the panel gets labeled.
In their words
What customers and contractors say.
Sonshine Electric is punctual and does a good job. Everything is done in a timely and courteous manor. Arlyn is a nice guy and backs up his work. He has been doing jobs for me for over 10 years.
I have known Arlyn Mund for twenty years. Over the years I have seen him grow from an employee to having his own business. He is honest, a hard worker, and very knowledgeable. Having used him on my jobs several times, I feel confident to refer him to anyone who needs an electrician.
We have used Sonshine Electric for a variety of projects. Most recently we wanted to add new insulation to our attic. Before going ahead with the project we called Sonshine Electric to come and inspect our electrical setup. I’m really glad that we called Sonshine! Now we can feel comfortable knowing that everything is up to code and safe in our house.

Local knowledge
Built for Front Range homes.
Arvada and its neighbors were built in waves: pre-war homes around Olde Town Arvada and old Golden, a huge stock of 1950s to 1970s ranches and split-levels across Arvada, Wheat Ridge, Lakewood and Westminster, and newer subdivisions out toward the foothills and up in Broomfield.
Each brings its own electrical work, from tired panels and two-prong outlets to EV chargers and finished basements. Add summer hail and lightning, downslope winds off the foothills, and Xcel Energy’s planned shutoffs on high fire-risk days, and you have the jobs we see most.

Straight answers
Electrical questions, answered.
Plain answers to the questions Arvada-area homeowners ask most, from breakers that trip to EV chargers and permits.
All 33 answersWhat should I do if I smell burning or see sparks from an outlet or panel?
If you can do it safely, turn off the breaker for that circuit or the main breaker, keep everyone away from it, and call a licensed electrician. If there is fire or smoke, get everyone out and call 911 from outside.
How do I know if my electrical panel needs replacing?
Signs include breakers that trip often or won’t reset, a warm or buzzing panel, scorch marks or rust, no open spaces for new circuits, or a panel brand known for problems. An electrician can test it and tell you whether repair or replacement makes more sense.
Is whole-home surge protection worth it in Colorado?
For most homes, yes. The Front Range gets frequent summer lightning, and modern furnaces, appliances, garage door openers and chargers all contain sensitive electronics. A surge protector installed at the panel is the first line of defense.
Can I install a ceiling fan where a light fixture is now?
Usually, but the electrical box must be rated to support a fan. Many light-fixture boxes aren’t. An electrician replaces the box with a fan-rated one or adds a brace, and can add a separate switch for the fan if you want one.
Do I need a permit for electrical work in Colorado?
Most electrical work beyond like-for-like replacement of a device, such as new circuits, panel changes, EV chargers, hot tubs and remodel wiring, requires an electrical permit and inspection. In Arvada and the surrounding cities, permits come from your city’s building division; in unincorporated areas, from the county.
How do I verify an electrician’s license in Colorado?
Use the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) license lookup. The State Electrical Board, part of DORA, licenses individual electricians and registers electrical contractors. Search the company name and the electrician’s name.
