Next door, across two counties

Electrician in Westminster, CO

Westminster sits right on Arvada’s northern edge and straddles Adams and Jefferson counties. It is one of the places we work most.

South Westminster, Standley Lake and the north end

Westminster grew from south to north. The older neighborhoods near Federal Boulevard and the Westminster Station area include post-war homes, some of them small brick ranches with original wiring. Around Standley Lake and through the middle of the city, 1970s and 1980s subdivisions dominate. North of 120th Avenue the homes are mostly from the 1990s onward.

That spread shapes the work. In the south end, it is grounding, GFCI protection and panels that have run out of room. In the middle-aged homes, it is lighting updates, ceiling fans and finished basements. Up north, it is EV chargers, surge protection and the circuits a home office or a hot tub needs.

Two counties, one city

Because Westminster crosses the county line, people are sometimes unsure who to call. For permits it doesn’t matter which county you are in: the City of Westminster’s building division handles permits and inspections inside city limits. For power, most of the city is on Xcel Energy; check your bill if you are not sure.

Westminster questions

Asked in Westminster.

Straight answers for Westminster homeowners. More in our full electrical Q&A.

Do you work in both the Adams and Jefferson County parts of Westminster?

Yes. We serve all of Westminster, from the Federal Boulevard neighborhoods to Standley Lake and north of 120th. Westminster is right next to our Arvada base.

Can my Westminster panel handle an EV charger?

Often yes, but it has to be checked, not guessed. We look at the panel’s rating, the open spaces and the home’s actual load, then size the charger circuit to fit.

In some homes a smaller charger circuit is the right answer; in others it makes more sense to deal with the panel first. You get the options and prices before any work.

Who handles permits for electrical work in Westminster?

The City of Westminster’s building division issues permits and performs inspections for addresses in the city, on either side of the county line. Your electrical contractor normally pulls the permit.
